Welcome to Agoy Yoga Darwin!

The Agoy Yoga Company Mission is to make yoga inviting and accessible to everyone. We strongly believe in starting where you are… whether you are a beginner Yogi, an athlete or have practiced yoga before, Agoy Yoga can offer a rewarding and challenging experience for you. We are delighted to facilitate a yogic community here in Darwin and feel much gratitude for all the people who walk through our doors.

Our beautiful light filled studio is located on Bishop Street, Woolner (10 minutes from the city center). We have converted a brand new Warehouse into a dedicated Yoga space. Yogis can enjoy high ceilings, natural light, spacious wooden floors and full size mirrors. We offer classes in Vinyasa Flow, Hatha Yoga, Power Yoga, Yin Yoga, Restorative & Meditation, Hot Yoga, Pre-natal, Mums n Bubs and Kids Yoga. As well as studio classes, Agoy offers private and corporate yoga where we come to you.

Class descriptions

Yoga Foundations

This class is based on the optimal alignment of the body. The class is offered at a slower pace with the support of yoga props so that beginners can cultivate the body awareness required to practice yoga safely. Detailed explanations are provided and questions are encouraged. The class consists of physical postures, meditation and breath work. You will leave this class feeling stretched, strengthened and relaxed! Great for beginners and also good for maintaining a regular practice. All levels welcome.

Open Flow

This is a general Vinyasa class suitable to all levels. Aimed to get the body moving, release tension and have fun! In this class we will flow from one posture to another creating a meditation in motion. You will leave feeling refreshed, relaxed and rejuvenated! All levels of experience welcome.

Yin/Restorative Yoga

Yin yoga is very therapeutic and healing for the body. It can release deep held tensions specifically in the hips and spine. Through long supported holds we are able to work deeply within our joints and release tension/pressure. Yin Yoga postures apply moderate stress to the connective tissues—the tendons, fascia, and ligaments—with the aim of increasing circulation and improving flexibility. Yin Yoga is said to improve organ health, immunity, and emotional well-being. All levels of experience welcome.

Power Yoga

A flowing sequence of postures that synchronizes the breath with movement. This invigorating practice has a focus on core strength, breath awareness and weaves principles of alignment with energetic movements. This is a dynamic fast paced class for those who enjoy a total workout in the body, mind and soul! In this class we will explore inversions, arm balances and deep backbends, not suitable for beginners. Some previous experience is assumed.

Vinyasa Yoga

Vinyasa means ‘intelligent sequencing’. In this class the breath is linked together with a creative progression of postures that heats, lengthens, strengthens, tones, and purifies the muscles and organs. When we flow with our breath, moving from one posture to another, we find a meditation in motion. The connecting movements become as important as the postures themselves. In our level 2 Vinyasa class we will explore inversions, arm balances, deep backbends and complicated transitions.

Hot Yoga

Hot Yoga is a flowing Hatha style class taught in a territory heated room (no fans and no air con!). Heated environments increase your pulse rate and metabolism and allow your blood vessels to become more flexible. That makes circulation easier and increases blood flow to the limbs. You will notice improved flexibility as the body heats up. Although you will get hot, the act of sweating helps control your internal body temperature. All levels welcome. Please bring a towel and water bottle.

Prenatal Yoga

These classes will build strength, focus and flexibility through a gentle practice designed especially for the pregnant woman’s needs. Expect a combination of active, flowing poses as well as restorative poses to relax and re-energize. Simple breathing and meditation techniques will be introduced to support the practice and bring the attention inward. Prenatal Yoga classes provide a serene, supportive, community energy that will allow you to connect with other moms-to-be.

Mums N Bubs

Share the joy of yoga with your little one and take the time to re-connect with yourself. The Mums & Bubs Yoga Class is designed to help you rebalance your body after pregnancy, regain strength and flexibility and to deepen the existing bond you have with your baby. Come and enjoy a relaxing environment as well as providing you with an opportunity to meet other Mums. Each class will cover postures for both you and your baby. Suitable for children up to 12 months old.

Community Class $5

We offer some yoga classes at a reduced price of only $5, to allow the fantastic benefits of yoga to reach more people in the community. This is a fun and friendly open level class taught by newly certified instructors. All levels of experience welcome.

Yoga was definitely love at first practice for me. It was everything I was searching for… the physical, the mental and the spiritual all combined into one. I come from a background of various styles including Hatha, Vinyasa Flow, Bikram, some Iyengar and most recently acro yoga! I love all yoga and I teach yoga drawing inspiration from many different styles. I hope that through my classes I can guide people to develop a relationship with their own body and seek truth in their practise. To me yoga is not just about the physical postures, it is the commitment to being my authentic self. Choosing to live my life by the 8 limbs of yoga, Yoga extends beyond the mat and into my relationships with others. I feel very blessed to be able to share my personal practise with the community of Darwin and hope that everyone who walks through Agoys doors feels very welcome and supported in their own journey. I stumbled into my first yoga class when I was 20, and can remember that I had an intense curiosity around the philosophy that was eluded to in the class. I literally was intrigued. Over the next few years I practiced ad hoc, but this changed significantly when I lived and travelled around India for a year. I found myself in Northern India teaching English and found my first yoga teacher that changed my life. Back in Australia, life took me to many places, but the longing to commit to yoga and a yogic lifestyle never went away. It was calling me constantly. In one of life's twists, last year I became unwell with 2 large tumours resulting in major surgery. They were one of the best things to happen to me as I was given an opportunity to completely stop, and reassess everything in my life. I committed to a regular practice of yoga on and off the mat and decided to commit further and completed my teacher training in the Purna system with John Oglvie.
Today I am healthy and happy and yoga on and off the mat is part of my daily life. I tend towards being a bhakti yogi in my personal practice. I am blessed and honoured to be teaching at Agoy Yoga in such a beautiful yoga community. I look forward to learning from all the teachers and students, and sharing the yoga journey with you all. I am excited to meet you, share with you, learn from you and practice with you.

I’m a multi-talented yoga teacher. I studied environmental science at university and get all fired up about conservation, especially when its ocean related. I’m a passionate photographer and I love to travel. Yoga has been a part of my life since my mum introduced it to me almost 15 years ago, but if I’m being honest it was an on again off again affair…. That was until 5 years ago when I met Julie Smerdon in Brisbane, Australia and my love affair with yoga became a full blown relationship. There were fireworks and trumpets….just kidding but there was something about the way Julie taught that made me want to keep coming back to her classes and keep showing up for myself on the mat. She also started me on my path to becoming a yoga teacher. The best thing about yoga is that it doesn’t just happen ‘on the mat’. We get stronger and more flexible for sure but the practice of yoga also helps us to be the best version of our self. My classes focus on good alignment and connecting with the breath, the poses we do vary but at the core all of my classes focus on being present and moving consciously, on finding your subtle body and realigning the breath, body and mind. They can also be pretty fun too, we don’t take things to seriously….it is just yoga after all! I have completed a number of teacher trainings and am constantly updating my qualifications….What can I say I love yoga, I love teaching and I love to learn. I look forward to seeing you on the mat.

I completed my yoga teacher training in Rishikesh, located in the foot hills of the Indian Himalayas. While there I was lucky enough to have a class with the founder of the school, 106 year old Swami Yogananda Maharaj Ji. This was an incredible first-hand look at the amazing benefits yoga has for the body; these benefits alone are reason enough to practice yoga. However, for me, it is yoga’s ability to clarify the mind, to soothe stress and to teach you about yourself that fuels my passion.  My style of yoga is strong, fast flowing and full of creative and challenging flows.
My aim is to guide you through the practice and to encourage you to explore your capabilities and limitations, allowing yourself to shape your own individual practice in a way which pushes you to your edge, a point which requires persistence and where you find growth, whether physical or mental. I look forward to sharing my practice with you.

Yoga truly is, a journey to Align the mind with Body and Spirit. A journey of self discovery and self acceptance. A journey that never ends. Travelling through Guatemala I crossed paths with a Yoga Teacher whom became my best friend. We spent months venturing through Central America, waking at sunrise and practicing Yoga. The more consistent my practice, the more I cultivated silence of the mind, the more I became aware of the breath, the more Invigorated and Energised I felt. On my return to Australia I found myself at Agoy, attending my first (Real) Yoga class, taught by CJ. She defiantly reinforced my love for Yoga and the strong desire I felt to teach. Continuously committed to progressing within my Yoga practice, I took the leap and studied the 200 YTT at Byron Yoga Centre. Learning the infinite depths of Asana, Pranayama, Meditation and Philosophy. Yoga now is a MASSIVE part of my life and I am so grateful for the Agoy Yoga Community. In class, I hold space for one to move creatively with their breath and achieve absolute control over the whole body, thus improving flexibility, Balance and Strength. I hope to inspire one to quiet the mind during practice, cultivate deep presence and to accept the process. You don’t have to change to be a Yogi, you simply just have to be. Namaste.

Lucy is a gentle and authentic practitioner informed by the poetic and pragmatic. Both student and teacher of Yoga and Ayurveda, Lucy celebrates the possibility of living in harmony with life. Trained in the traditions of birth by Robin Lim, Lucy practices as a Doula which compliments her training in prenatal and postnatal yoga. As an experienced secondary school teacher, Lucy possesses a finely tuned ability to identify and attend to the individual needs of her students. She brings a lovely sense of humour to each class and interaction.

Yoga found me accidentally and I’m so glad it did. Because I can, with a heart full of gratitude, say it has and continues to radically change my life each and every day. I never believed in miracles until I started yoga. The very first yoga class I attended lit a spark – to be more precise, it reignited a flame that was already within me. And as long as I practice, it never lets me down. I hold a 350 HR Yoga Teaching Diploma form the Victorian Institute of Yoga Teacher Training and Education. I am currently studying towards my 500 HR Advanced Yoga Medicine Teacher Training with the wonderful Tiffany Cruikshank Yoga Medicine and have completed the following modules; Sequencing with a Purpose 60HRS, Anatomy and Dysfunction of Hips 60HRS and Yin and Meditations 60HRS. I want everyone to realise the power they have within, to change the very fabric of their being. To heal, to balance and to soften but most of all to love. Come to one of my classes these days and you’ll experience a raw, honest and invigorating flow, maybe make some shapes you’ve never made before, and without a doubt you will definitely meditate. It’s THE game changer.

Frequently Asked Questions

I have never done yoga before. Where do I start?
If you have never practiced yoga before we recommend you start with our Yoga Foundations class. However, any of our open level classes are safe and rewarding for a beginner.

How do I pay? Do you have eftpos facilities?
Yes, we have eftpos facilities at our studio! You can pay by cash or eftpos. (No American express sorry).

Do I need to book studio classes?
All classes are drop in casual. No bookings required. Please arrive 10-15 minutes early to class.

What do I wear to a yoga class?
Please wear clothing you can move in and are comfortable sweating in. Nothing too constricting!

Do I need to bring my own yoga mat?
No. Yoga mats are provided by the studio but you are welcome to bring your own.

What is hot yoga? Do I need to bring anything extra?
Hot yoga is a Hatha style class practiced in a heated room. Please arrive to this class well hydrated and bring plenty of water. Be prepared to sweat and bring a towel.

What and when should I eat?
Yoga is best done on an empty stomach so don’t eat anything 2 hours before class. A small snack is okay if you have to!
