Kakadu Hike/Yoga Retreat

2 SPOTS LEFT

A remote, untracked adventure into pristine and magnificent ancient landscapes where very few venture combined with daily yoga, meditation, reflection and swimming.

The trip starts in Darwin. From here we drive for 5 hours into the heart of Kakadu. When we arrive we follow the mark trail for a short way to the top of The iconic Twin Falls. After this we are in untracked nature, setting off to explore stunning waterfalls, magnificent gorges and the wonder of sleeping under the stars as people have for thousands of years. The only evidence of the modern world is what we carry in our backpacks. Our drinking water comes from the pristine creeks we follow and swim in.

This event is a collaboration between Willis Walkabouts and Agoy Yoga, two small local businesses leading in their industries.

Join Cassie Newes from Willis Walkabout and Kate Roseth from Agoy Yoga for a 7 day/6 night off track bush walking and yoga experience.

What better a place to practice yoga than in nature?

Yoga is a practice of connecting to our deeper selves. In order to this we need to slow down, remove the distractions and get present in the moment.

This guided bushwalking and yoga experience will give you the opportunity to do just that.

Return feeling, strong in your body, clear in your mind, and connected to your yourself.

FAQ’s

Do I need to carry water?

On the first day, you will need at least 2L of water to drink in the vehicle. On the walk for most people, 1L will be plenty as we are always next to the creek.

Do I need to filter the drinking water?

The water is naturally filtered by sandstone. It is very clean and safe to drink directly from the creek.

What kind of weight will I be expected to carry?

If you dehydrate food for lunches and bring the lightweight gear you should not need more than a 12-15kg pack. Some people are able to pack less if they have very lightweight gear. Please check our Bushwalking Information page for more details. https://www.bushwalkingholidays.com.au/bushwalking-guide

What kind of distances will we be walking with packs?

On some days we will only walk for 1-3 hours. On two of the days, we will be walking for 4-5 hours (including breaks). We will also have one day where we base at camp and any walking will be optional.

Do I need to be an experienced bushwalker to come?

This trip is designed to be enjoyable for everyone, from beginners to very experienced bushwalkers. If you have no experience bushwalking please call us first to ensure you are able to organise appropriate bushwalking equipment to really enjoy the trip.

Do I need to carry yoga equipment?

No, you can do the yoga without a mat or any props. The only prop you will carry is a set of Roll & Release balls which we will provide for you. We recommend a sarong to lay on the sand. This will also be useful after swimming.

What surface will we be doing yoga on?

Most of the time we will be on large rock platforms, sometimes we may do yoga on white, sandy beaches next to the freshwater pools.

Do I need to be experienced in yoga to come?

No, the yoga will be modified so that everyone can join in. The yoga will be a combination of dynamic movement, restorative, and roll & release.

What food do we bring and what is catered for?

You are required to cater for your breakfasts, lunches, snacks, and beverages. Dinners are provided by the walking guide, but everyone will share the weight of the dehydrated dinners.

When will we have hot water for beverages?

Hot water will be available every morning and evening. There will also be plenty of other opportunities to boil water during the day. We will be cooking on the fire and taking water from the creek so there is no shortage of fuel or water.

YOGA

The yoga will be simple and available to everyone who joins, no prior yoga experience required.

The yoga practice will be an opportunity to connect with your body through gentle movement.

The postures will help to stretch your muscles after the days walking and we will incorporate a method we call roll and release to release tight muscles and reduce aches and pains.

You do not need to carry heavy yoga props. We will keep the practices simple so that a towel or light weight travel yoga mat or similar will be adequate.

We will provide you with a set of Roll & Release balls for the yoga sessions.
